Everyone is welcome to visit us to enjoy the World's Greatest Hobby!

Approximately 30 members maintain a stand alone building, which houses an H0-scale model railroad with a sizable mainline, several branch lines, 8 towns and industry areas. We are expanding to include an N-scale layout as well. Our DCC (digital command control) layouts supports radio and infrared Digitrax walk-around throttles. The club is open to visitors most weeks. The members help each other grow in the many skills needed in model railroading, as well as volunteering in community events and shows associated with railroading, as well as volunteering in community events and shows associated with railroading. For the new and established model railroad enthusiast, the club is a great way to participate in the "World's Greatest Hobby."

About NWR

The members of the Naptown & White river Model Railroad Club are dedicated to the enhancement and growth of the model railroading hobby. We believe that the purpose of model railroading is to provide enjoyment (for the members) and education/entertainment (public) through the building and maintenance of layouts. We are the oldest active railroad club in Indianapolis.

History of the N+WRRR Model Railroad Club

Founded in 1966 as the Miami Valley RR Club, the club moved to its downtown Indianapolis location (on Virginian Ave—next to the Conrail mainline) in 1970 and was renamed. In 1979, the Chessie System closed the old B+O freight house, so the NWR relocated to its current location on McDougal Street on the near southside of Indianapolis. Our membership roster boasts a storng core membership (even including an original member of the Miami Valley RR Club).

What Makes the N+WRRRC Unique?

For starters, the club owns its building (an enviable position) as opposed to most other RR clubs that rent/borrow space. Since we don’t have the uncertainty associated with renting, we enjoy staying power: Our layouts are constructed without the worries of having to dismantle/move at the end of a lease.
